Day 18

So far, so good.  I’m having all sorts of pains, weird feelings and just not really sure what is going on, but I can’t stop now.

PAIN        My pain is minimal, mostly because I am taking pain medication.  I had a bad hiatal hernia that was also repaired along with my sleeve gastrectomy.  I think most of my pain is from that but also the laparoscopic incisions are quite tender.

FOOD        Now, my feelings as far as food, hunger and all that jazz is a little weird. I woke up not hungry but knew I needed to eat.  Today, I  started my  full liquid diet.  Thank God.  The clear liquid was starting to make me feel a little nauseous.  I had about 4 oz of an Iced Latte shake.  Tasted really good and went down really well.  So, I have passed the first step for full liquids.  I will be on full liquids for about 2 weeks.  I also made me some black bean soup.  I made it a little runny and strained it so no little bean skins were left.  It tasted awesome.  Still having a hard time getting in 64 oz of liquid.  I’m at 40 oz right now and probably won’t be adding much more.

My New Life Has Just Begun

November 1, 2014, I made a decision, a decision that will hopefully change my life.  Join me on my journey.

I am 100 pounds overweight which is called morbid obesity.  I cringe every time I see that written on my medical reports.  So, I decided to change things.  I decided on having a Sleeve Gastrectomy.  Basically, most of my stomach is removed and I am left with a stomach the size of a banana.  Why am I going to such extremes?  Because I am sick and tired of being sick and tried.  I sleep with a CPAP machine,  I have pain in my hips, knees, ankles and back.  I already had a partial knee replacement for osteoarthritis. But carrying around 100 lbs didn’t help.

I started with a two week diet before my surgery which resulted in losing 10 lbs.  So this is where my journey begins.

November 15, 2014 I had surgery.  It was done laparoscopic so I only had a one night stay in the hospital.  I am home now and feeling some tenderness in my abdomen.  But then, most of my stomach has been removed so I guess I should be a little tender.   I have to drink 64 oz  daily of clear liquids for about 3 days. Chicken and beef broth have become my friend.  The protein drinks that are designed for this type of weight loss are not that good.  I’m not sure if I’m hungry or just  missing the taste of some foods, like a nice juicy steak.  Well, that’s about 4 weeks down the road.  Maybe a nice juicy steak bite.
